waaaaaaay overdue

 well, hello there...

it's been a while. Sorry about that, but life has been busy. Since I last blogged, I celebrated two Christmases and New Years, was gone to Atlanta, Georgia for three days, and started packing for college. Like I said, busy. And crazy. But now I'm here and I'm forcing myself to stay seated in my chair instead of running off and doing the million other things I SHOULD be doing and I'm going to finish my Welcome to 2015 post if it kills me.

Which would be an interesting cause of death to put on a tombstone, if you think about it. "Death by blogpost. What a terrible way to go." Would make an interesting novel too.

Honestly, the reason why this wasn't written sooner is a) because I was in Atlanta away from my computer, and b) because I was too mentally and physically exhausted to find suitable pictures and gifs and such. Because that's hard work, you know.

So here we are. It's 2015. Looking back at 2014 is interesting and scary, because as years go, it wasn't fantastic but I can definitely say I've had worse. It was just a year. But 2015...you look like you hold some promise, my new friend. I can't wait to see what secret surprises you hold in your mysterious pockets.

As I have stated in the past, I am a thief. More specifically, a tag thief. Which is why I am copying the lovely Chelsea's 2014/2015 blogpost, because it was awesome and fun to read and it was just the right boost to get me blogging again. (so in thanks to her, go on and check her blog out. She's pretty awesome).

And without further ado, welcome to 2015.

1.) What did you do in 2014 that you’d never done before?

a) got my driver's license
b) ate seaweed for the first time
c) had an endoscopy
d) quizzed on the big stage

2.) Did you keep your New Years’ resolutions, and will you make one this year?

pray tell, what are these "resolutions" you speak of? And why would I ever make one?

okay, I actually do have a resolution of sorts. Basically, I just want to spend less time watching TV or on the intewebs and do more reading/physical activity. Which is hard because I'm going to college so I'm going to busy. But still. I can try.

3.) Did anyone close to you give birth?

My cousin had a baby. My sister-in-law is expecting. Other than that, nope.

4.) Did anyone close to you die?

My grandmother passed away in the summer.

5.) What countries/states did you visit?

Hmmm....lemme see...Kansas (multiple times), Minnesota, Iowa, South Carolina, West Virginia

6.) What would you like to have in 2015 that you lacked in 2014?

good health!!! dedication to read the Bible in a year (or less, actually), because I kinda peetered out towards the end of the year (1 and 2 Chronicles sure got me...)

7.) What date from 2014 will remain etched upon your memory?

Hmmmm...probably July 29th.

8.) Did you move anywhere?

Noooope. Not yet, at least.

9.) What was your biggest achievement of the year?

definitely getting my driver's license. It took FOREVER and I thought I would never be able to drive, but in the end, that was just a lie I was telling myself and driving was a lot easier than I thought it would be.

10.) What was your biggest failure?

quitting geometry was a disappointment for me. I wanted to finish it. I wanted to do well in learning it. But after hitting one too many walls, I just couldn't make my way through it. So yeah. That kinda sucked.

11.) Did you suffer illness or injury?

Uh...apart from the fairly obvious Celiac Disease, the year sure had its fair share of nasty colds in store for me. Thanks, 2014.

12.) What was the best thing you bought?

Either my First Sensibility CD, or my ticket to Passion. Both were really awesome (for completely different reasons, but whatevs.)

13.) Whose behavior merited celebration?

I plead the fifth

14.) Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

dude, what is this? an interrogation?

15.) Where did most of your money go?

Music. DEFINITELY music. I buy too much music. It's an addiction.

16.) What did you get really, really, really excited about?

17.) What was the best concert you’ve been to this year?

well, since the only concerts I attended in 2014 were twenty one pilots concerts, I'm gonna have to go with...twenty one pilots. I enjoyed both of them, but I think the one I attended in early 2014 was my favourite. I miss it. *goes and listens to Migraine on repeat*

18.) What song/album will always remind you of 2014?

Probably First Sensibility, since I listened to it so much during NaNo. Also, Skinny Love by Birdy. I listened to that a lot. And Regional At Best.

19.) Compared to this time last year, are you:

Tired. But okay.

20.) What do you wish you’d done more of?

I wish I'd slept more (jk, but seriously). I wish I could've played more basketball and hung out with friends more. And maybe focused on Bible Quizzing more than I have.

21.) What do you wish you’d done less of?

Worrying, watching TV, eating crappy fast food salads, sleeping (jk, but seriously).

22.)What was your greatest musical discovery?

definitely Misterwives and VIXX.  It's weird to think that I haven't been listening to VIXX for that long--especially since they're my second favourite band ever--and Misterwives is incredible (thank you twenty one pilots for introducing them to me!!!)

23.) How did you spend Christmas?

On the couch, in a hoodie, watching Agent's of Shield until my family came home from church that evening. Meaning, I was sick.

24.) How are you spending New Year’s?

Well, I spent it at my grandparents' house with family. We played games, drank punch, and threw confetti. And overall didn't get enough sleep.

25.) Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?

Ummmm....like talking on the phone? Or texting? Because talking-wise I think the longest phone-call I willingly made was with my friend Katrina. Texting-wise, it's a tie between Lauricia and Shea.

26.) What was the best book you read?

Oh you're a terrible person. you're asking me to pick a favourite. I can't pick favourites. It's just not right.

Just kidding. I loved After, by Amy Efaw, The Knife of Never Letting Go, by Patrick Ness, and Blue Lily, Lily Blue, by Maggie Stiefvater.

26.) Did you fall in love in 2014?

If you mean, did you fall in love in 2014 with mozzarella cheese or this guy's hair, then yes, definitely yes.

27.) What was your favorite TV show?

Oh TV. now here's something I'm a bit of an expert at. I spent so much of 2014 watching TV that it's impossible for me to pick just ONE. So here's the list.
  • Sherlock
  • You From Another Star
  • Monstar
  • Tomorrow's Cantabile
  • Agent's of Shield
  • Pride and Prejudice
  • Healer
  • The Flash
  • Selfie (don't judge--shallow Karen Gillan is like my favourite thing ever, sue me...)
  • After School: Lucky or Not
  • My Little Monster
  • Noragami
so yeah. I had a lot of favourites. And this is all I could remember to put on it. :P

28.) Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?

Hate no, dislike, maybe. Hating is too strong and terrible a word.

now I do feel like this toward some people on certain days...
29.) What did you want and get?

A job? I guess I wanted a job, since I wanted to make money. Or time to hang with friends. That was nice too.

30.) What did you want and not get?

well, this is kinda stupid, but I really wanted to not have Celiac Disease and obviously I didn't get that. But I'm okay with that.

31.) What were your favorite films of this year?

oh goodness. This is like opening Pandora's box. You don't know what you've just done.

a) The Fault In Our Star
b) The Maze Runner
c) Guardians of the Galaxy
d) Captain America: the Winter Soldier
e) Divergent
f) the Giver
g) the Book Thief

...that's a lot. But 2014 was a good year for movies, in my opinion.

32.) What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I was at camp with Abby and the wonderful girls of Tan Cabin. I had some delicious pudding. :) And I officially became an old person on my birthday.

33.) How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2014?

Ummm...fashion concept? What is this? ;)

I guess I have a basic fashion style. Jeans, t-shirts, a lot of sweaters, a lot of black. Wore some plaid. Discovered eyeliner. Remembered how much boots hurt my back but how lovely being tall is.

34.) What kept you sane?

music, family, and friends--and of course, my Lord and Saviour!

35.) Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Ummmm...I had a big Lee Jong Suk thing going on for a while. Also, while watching TFioS I really just how much I love Ansel Elgort's voice...and his face is pretty nice too. And as always, Cha Hakyeon holds a special place in my heart. Mainly because he has skills. And can sing.

36.) What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Not assuming things around going to be the worst they can be. I have a terrible habit of being pessimistic to the point of absurdity, and if I'd just leaned a little more in God in those things I worried over, I probably would have had a little pleasanter of a year.

37.) What political issue stirred you the most?

I guess it was the vote that Boy Scouts of America took in 2013 that ended up allowing homosexual youths into Boy Scouts. The vote itself took place in 2013, but it wasn't put into action until January 1st 2014. My family is very much involved with BSA, so it was kind of a disappointment and rough transition period.

38.) Who did you miss?

I think I miss a different person every day. The other day, it was my old quizzing coach. Today, it's my camp and Passion friends. So I don't think I can narrow it down to a short list. Toooooo many peoples.

39.) Who was the best new person you met?

well, since it's already on my mind, I'd have to say my camp friends and the people I went to Passion with. Now, I didn't REALLY get to know my Passion group until 2015, but I saw them at S.U.S.H.I and played games and ate cereal and worshipped God with them, and I'm really glad God made Jordan make me come to that group with her. :)

40.) Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2014.

that things are never as bad as your melodramatic mind makes them out to be.

me to my imagination
41.) Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

Basically this whole song. TOO MANY FEELS.

42.) Five personally significant events of 2014:

a) I completed a 50k novel for NaNo for the first time.
b) I got to witness to kids I'd never met before.
c) I learned how to drive and passed my driver's test with flying colors.
d) my WIP broke 200 pages and 50k in the same week
e) I started seriously learning Korean

43.) Five things I want to do in 2015:

a) do well in college and quizzing (at least enough to be able to go to Nationals).
b) see twenty one pilots in concert again
c) finish the great ones and begin editing it.
d) start another blog cataloging my experiences as a college student with Celiac Disease (seriously, I was looking for a good blog for me to relate to, and I couldn't really find one. And I know I'm not the only one out there.)
e) draw closer to God than I ever have before.

44.) Five people I’d like to know better in 2014:

I guess number one would be my roommate. I haven't really talked to her at all, so we're both going into this college experience without knowing much about each other. Which is not a bad thing. It'll be a growing experience for both of us. :)
And all the other people I can think of are impossible to rank/count/list.

there you have it! It is officially 2015 now, since I finally gritted out this post (the past 9 days haven't counted. It's the Elizabethan Calender.) I'm super excited to get to spend another year with you all, and I can't wait to see what awesome ideas God's going to give me over the next 12 months (and what ideas he gives you all too!) However, I have some happy/sad news.

I am going to college in one day.

Which means blogging might get shoved to the back burner.

Correction: will almost definitely be shoved to the back burner.

Which makes me kinda sad.

I will keep blogging. It's kinda my goal to write at least one blogpost a week, but we'll see. I'm taking it as it comes, as I do with all things. But I just wanted to let you all know before you started wondering "Hey...that Ely girl kinda dropped off the map this week or this month...weird." There's a reason. And I will be back. :)

Have a fantastic 2015, guys!

  1. Sounds like you had a crazy year:)

There were too many things that were awesome about this post that I cant point them all out. lol. (okay, every TOP reference basically.)
I hope you have an amazing 2015 :)

  2. You've come so far, but you have so many new and cool and wonderful places yet to go!!
I love this recapping post, and I wish you the greatest of 2015s.

    Oh Ely...you inspire me. :)

  3. Good luck with college! It's an awesome world of scholarly-ness ;P I think I'm gonna copy your post idea as well!
