yin and yang

siblings are awesome.  I know, because I am one.

just kidding. I'm really a pretty terrible sibling, but I've been blessed with three amazing ones and I'm ever thankful I have them as examples for my writing.

honestly. I realized the other day that the relationship between me and my sister is very similar to what Matt and Jon have, and I also said to myself, "You know, Sammy and Linds are like carbon copies of themselves while being different enough to make them want to murder each other now and then..." which is pretty much me and Jesh in a nutshell.

so yeah. I have pretty awesome siblings, and I think siblings are a crucial part in writing. Your characters need antagonists and best friends, right? well, you can find all of the above in your average family--it's that easy.

why am I going on about siblings? if you hadn't noticed, I've been more than a little absent lately. And I'm trying to make that up to you all. And coincidentally, Beautiful People are doing a siblings edition this month.

ya'll miss Matt and Jon, right? because you're about to get a refresher course on those two crazies.  hold on, it should be a interesting ride.

*rubs hands together like a mad scientist*

1. What is the first memory they have of each other?Jon said he remembered seeing Matt placed in the bassinet moments after he was, but everyone knew he was joking. His first memory was probably at the ripe age of 3 when Matt took his blocks without asking and he "accidentally" punched Jon in the nose. Yeah, we all know who the dominant twin is...
Funnily enough, Matt's first memory of Jon involves a flying fist and a bloody nose, though he swears Jon's memory didn't actually happen. *shakes head* those boys...
2. Describe their relationship in 3 words.yin and yang
3. What kind of things do they like to do together?pretty much everything except watch TV. Matt would honestly rather read a book, and Jon wiggles too much for him. He also likes the Walking Dead, which forever scarred poor Matty who is not a zombie-fan. (it's okay, Nicolas Hoult, I still love you...)
4. What was their biggest fight?it involved car doors slamming and seat belts clicking, hands tight on the steering wheel and raised voices, screeching tires and ambulance sirens, but other than that I'm not allowed to say anything. Seriously. The writing police will come and hunt me down if I say anything more.
5. How far would they go to save each other?they would honestly die for each other, if that had crossed their mind in time (it sure has crossed Matt's mind recently...)
6. What are their pet peeves about each other?I mentioned the wiggling thing above. By the way, when I say wiggle, I mean wiggle. The boy could not hold still. He was pretty much a five year old trapped inside a teenager.
Jon's pet peeve about Matt would probably be that he has a bad habit of being patronizing (that means when you talk down to someone).
yes, I just went there. and it was funny. come on, you want to laugh.
7. What are their favorite things about each other?Jon's favourite thing was that they looked exactly the same. He saw so many jokes and opportunities in that.
Matt loved that they were so different. He didn't have to worry about his weaknesses because he had someone to make up for all his failings. Like sports. Matt never really got over the third grade soccer ball fiasco. Nobody really did.
8. What traits do they share? Mannerisms, clothing, quirks, looks, etc?ehehehehehehe...
in all seriousness, their behaviours were completely different. The moment one or the other opened his mouth, you knew which twin it was just by how they spoke. Their styles almost clashed too--Jon lived and breathed basketball shorts and t-shirts, while Matt had a thing for argyle sweaters and polos (thankfully, Colt broke him of that habit...) They did share one quirk: when puzzled or amused, they would raise one eyebrow dramatically. Funnily enough, they never raised the same eyebrow.
9. Who has the strongest personality?jon.
ole jonny boy.
did I mention jon?
10. How does their relationship change throughout your story?*goes and cries in a corner because of all the things I can't tell you*
honestly, I think their relationship strengthens over the span of their adventures. Even though Jon is dead, Matt obviously has some major issues with his brother--resentment being one of them. In the end, he realizes that some of the things he'd pounded into himself were really lies and that his brother really loved him...and that he's not as bad of a terrible person as he originally thought.

oh, it feels wonderful to delve back into the world of my Matty and Jon. I've missed them. I can't wait til summer, when I can really focus back on writing and finishing this crazy story. I put up my maps today. I can't wait to put up my owl sticky note plotline too--cute sticky notes are DEFINITELY a perk of being an author.

maybe if I get my act together, I'll have a snippet or two for you all in a few days. I don't know for sure though, because Nationals just finished and then finals and you know I keep saying I'll feel better enough to do all the things but that hasn't quite happened yet so...you know. Stay on the lookout. I'll be around.  Two posts in one week--that's gotta be a miracle or something!

Keep on being awesome, everybody! Matt (and Jon) wishes you a happy Wednesday!
